Who wins the mens Stawell gift?
2024 Mens Stawell Gift
I gonna cheat the system a little and not include everyone in the poll. Im gonna put it in order of the Gift winners from this year and let people select 'other' if they believe the winner will come from someone that hasn't taken a lift this year. I know last years winner Tarrant didn't take a lift, but there is not many ammo runners taking the field this year.
Final seems obvious to me, but I'd love to know what others think. Ill do a deeper analysis later.

Re: 2024 Mens Stawell Gift
Lacey should be starting favourite for mine. I’m no bookie by any stretch, but I would have him at $2.50.
Hunt and Endale can be $5 a piece, no one else should be shorter than $9-10
Not sure if I’ll be backing Jack if he’s any shorter in price, but he is my pick, not with any great confidence though. Jerome could even be the go-er of the group… but I doubt it

The Only front marker possible of winning is Hoffman if he has his Waverley form. No TF chances this season, Endale the real danger as he has reached a new top speed, 21.8 200m is moving.
But if Power gets back to his previous 100m speed then he's a huge chance. (10.5)
Top 3
Endale
Hoffman
Power

Exactly 20 years since a “Hunt” (Hunte) won the gift.
Coincidence? Synergy? Symbiosis?

He's got a very good chance to win. If he does it then begs the question.. will the VAL change rules around the winners lifts and retroactive NAP etc? He's barely jogged down the track at Macksville in the 120 (more than a second off the pace) while managing to place 2nd in the 70m race with a significantly faster RPM than his 120 (virtually impossible to do). Then next gift comes out and wins by metres. Well done to the Vikings for exploiting a gaping hole in the regulations and getting away with it but fingers crossed that gets plugged for next season?
Hunt in my each way bet 100% though.

Doesn’t require a rule change. The stewards are already empowered to act in the circumstances you described if they feel action is warranted. See 2022 Wangaratta Women’s Gift.

I’m not taking a position on any decision, previous season or current, just stating that the power to act already exists based on rules and precedent to use them, so no rule changes are required.Norm the Form wrote:Sheesh, low blow Tom

The odds were submitted to the bookmaker about a week ago. And I believe we are looking at tomorrow or Thursday for online betting. As the bookmaker is located interstate all athletes will be included in this market.

Re: 2024 Mens Stawell Gift
Whilst hunts 70 at Ballarat was impressive this is 120 and based on Warrnambool and stawell 12 months ago he's a 12.5 runner who with the lift might run 12.3 and come fourth or fifth in the final.
You only have to look at Warrnambool results for the previous two years.
Women's 120 times were extremely similar to this 13 7 to win and about the same time each year to make final.
Then you look at men's last year and 4 guys ran 12.3 with none threatening at stawell.
The year before boulton wins from moushou both run 12.1 and neither figure at stawell.
I think hunt is another Jason bailey story from a few years back.
Everyone tipped him to win on this side mostly based on his 70 metre performances he opens 2.50 favourite up there but those of us who back genuine 120 runners cleaned up on drc.
Anyway hope everyone wins up there and have something on Amber Van Eede in womens 400.
She will improve a lot on her ringwood 4th and is one of only 3 winning hopes

Re: 2024 Mens Stawell Gift
The 2 lovers sat tentatively together at the restaurant, the small distance between them, separated by a rose in the middle of the table cut the tangible tension between them.
"it is inevitable that we reveal our Stawell picks", he said to himself mentally.
a garden drooped down her the balcony, overlooking the bay. Southern Italy was beautiful he thought. He looked around, trying to avoid confrontation, getting flashbacks and is of the handicapper? He noticed Anaso Blojobodwana mopping the floors, he smiled. he slowly turned to his lover, in an animated fashion.
"listen, we need to talk", she revealed to him.
she grabbed his hand. His Walter Dix was starting to do of the Tyson Gay.
"my darling, you must reveal to me you Stawell pick", she commanded.
he hesitated:
"Brad Hunt", the twitchy sound waves of his voice verberated anxiously.
He thought- if you are really my pluperfect lover, then turn to me, even in jest, hold my gaze, and reveal to me you Stawell pick.
"I also believe it will be Brad Hunt'', she said
He knew she was the right one for him.
they passionately kissed each other at the table, slashing the tension in front of them, and disregarding the opinions and reactions of The Rowse and Tim OTHY were giving on the opposite table.
SO BRAD HUNT WAS THE PICK FOR THE MEN'S STAWELL GIFT.

You've given Loukeris a 4.5 odds against Hunt at 17?! I'm wondering if you forgot that Hunt beat Maki by two metres before he went on to win Terang the next day. Discounting Hunt is very silly because his win at Warrnambool was very impressive, even when compared with past winners of the same gift.

Re: 2024 Mens Stawell Gift
First of all run run run I am obviously not discounting hunt.
May I remind you there are over 100 entries for the men's gift and I have hunt a clear fifth in my market and also stated I expect him to final and finish between 3rd and 5th.
You are right based on Warrnambool he will beat maki home but as we all know you can cherry pick one race anywhere to support an argument.
Based on Terang the next day maki will destroy hunt as he won in 12.2 with Hewitt winning the women's in the same time as mannix power the previous day.
Now I am not saying Hewitt is as good as mannix power but 3 tenths is a lot in anyone's language so let's just say maybe Terang was the one on makis radar to get the lift not Warrnambool.
I certainly don't claim to know everything and due to squad injuries and family deaths I have missed quite a few meets for the first time in 10 years but I do respect some opinions on this site including yours and I wasn't at Ballarat so if Hunt can find something that I didn't see at either stawell last year or Warrnambool this year then I will probably lose a fair bit of cash
Cheers

Seeings Van Eede is entered in the under 18 girls sprint I’m tipping nobody will be able to back her in the Womens 400m Jim. Good tip all the same though. Huge chance

The biggest piss take from the weekend.
Running down a stawell gift heat in boardshorts and a backwards hat and running 12.2 down from 13.1 hahaha. Yeah that was going to slide right under the eyes of the powers at be.
Good Try
