Who will win the 70m mens gift? and who takes a lift in the 100m
2024 70m Frankston Gift Mens
Thought I'd give Donatello a chop out this week.
Bit of a different one with the 70m distance being the main race. Despard (0.5m) seems to be the obvious choice, as a top level sprinter, he looms as the one to beat.
Kerr and Glassborrow both finished on the podium and will not be far away here. Lacey, Hoffman, Lugo, Featherston and Byron all made the hotly contested final last week at Rye and will all be in the frame.
Last years winner Saye Morris returns off 0.75m, will be looking to defend his title against a quality field. Michael Moschou, winner of the 2022 Bay Sheffield and more recently the winner of the backmarkers 120m at Bay Sheffield in 2023 appears to be making the journey across the border, as well as the credentialed Corey Baker.
Normally a wide open race with plenty of surprises... don't think that will be the case this year, as I antipate that I'll predict the final correctly
Despard 1st
Moschou
Kerr 2nd
Lugo
Baker
Hoffman
Lacey 3rd
Glassborow
Jerome Lugo to win the 100m and take a lift

Agree with norm, it will be good to compare RPMs of Morris v Despard. Surely Despard will be quicker.

Despard RPM will still be significantly quicker than Morris for a 70m. There are levels - and Despard is on another level to Morris.

Reckon you're about right with the final too. Going with Kerr for the win though I'd be expecting Despard to maybe be around the .111 RPM given the 6.59 at Wollongong is a .1098 RPM, gets an extra 9.5m but is on grass...
With that it puts Despard around 7.7 I think.
Kerr's 7.67 at Rye though definitely starting to show form after running 7.72 off the same mark on track at Essendon, 7.95 off the same mark at Geelong, 7.79 off the same mark at Waverley... It's either Frankston, a 70m soon, or would almost expect to not see him again until Stawell in a 70m.
I think Despard just doesn't quite have enough real estate in this scenario but would be flying home and it'd be a great run to see him get up! Lacey could be there abouts as well

Jack Lacey. Made his heat look stupid last week at Rye. Has made just about every 70m final this year without winning one. Surely been holding out for this one.
But ol Timmy Rosen sneaking out there to 9m could be interesting.
Ran a 7.5 60m in the middle of winter. In form could run quicker. Hands forward from his mark, he’ll only be running 60.25m or so.
Training partner of the mighty Leigh Phelan.
Could be a chance.

I’ll give you the inside word track potato, I couldn’t win if I started now I haven’t even got out of my heat this whole season. I haven’t even qualified for a tick most weeks I’m that shit in the 70 atm. Not sure what you’re watching. And I’m not sure I’d call moving 0.25m all season “moving out there”. I wish I shared your optimism.

Despard v Morris same RPM. Levels ? At this stage I would think Despard would have Morrris on track over 60/100. But you can't dispute how fast Morris is on grass.
