On what I saw at Keilor, this will be another week of handbraking from those looking for a lift into Easter.

You would think so, the person that wins this is probably someone that won’t be running the 400m at Stawell. Perhaps Wang-Lec?? Maybe even Halle Martin? She may have Stawell on her mind though. Same goes with Henderson.
Hard to say whether the field being rehandicapped to scratch suits the backies or fronties. If it suits the fronties, Antonino or Tzilantonis would be my selection

The last 50m of these events have been like a comedy skit, Ballarat and Keilor especially. So many doing everything in their power to not edge past the leader despite clearly having enough left. You'd swear there was an electrified string across the finish line. The Lorraine Donnan this year could possibly take the mantle off the Masters 300 as the world's dodgiest race.

I can’t imagine why people would’ve been pulling up the last few weeks? Do people know that a win in a 400m (not a group 1 race) locks in that mark for Stawell. People should’ve been doing everything in their power to win at Keilor for example, so they can get a sash, and hold that mark for Stawell

If only , if only you people that are really running genuine week in week out know what coaches are doing with their athletes.
The sport is corrupt it’s just exposing itself but many are to naive to believe it

Re: 2024 Castlemaine 400m Womens
Okay the Womens 400m. Looks a race in three. Obvious one here is Amber Van Eede. Won in a canter at Mortlake and keeps the same mark. Has picked up her rpm since albeit over slightly shorter distances due to her mark in the Juniors being 30 odd metres bigger than her Women’s mark. Will be right in it when the whips are cracking. Cassandra Wang Lecouteur for second. Only entered for the 400m and seeings she will be in the thick of the action in the Womens Gift at Stawell, I think she will be looking for a decent cheque here. Halle Martin in for third. Always finishes close up and is ready to strike in a 400m over the next couple of weeks
Illana Grandine
Cassandra Wang LeCouteur 2nd
Clea Clifford
Chloe Kinnersly
Amber Van Eede 1st
Lucy Zotti
Halle Martin 3rd
Zoe Nicholson
Keely Henderson
Isabella Antonino

Good eye statsman, Van Eede has been on the improve all season. 400m looks to be her distance too.

Definitely suits all the backies in the field, pulling everyone the same amount just gives the backmarker that little extra bit more time to chase the fronties down

Re: 2024 Castlemaine 400m Womens
It makes so little sense to shift everybody forward temporarily. There has to be a permanent system in place and the only way to do that fairly for everybody is the elite/occasional runners go back further so they are handicapped in accordance with what the regulars have been running off week in week out. Shifting runners forward is doing nothing other than bringing the finish line towards them. I explained why in three posts here before and after Easter last year:
