Who will win the 2023 Waverley 100m Men's Gift?
2023 Waverley 100m Men's Gift
Wowee that's a lot of entries! 96 to be exact! After an interesting double header weekend with many talking points (that's more like it!) we move our attention to Waverley for the 100m Men's gift! Known as one of the best grass tracks in Australia we see previous Stawell Gift winner Matthew Rizzo share the backmarkers honour with Nathan Riali both of 1.75m.
There's so much in this race its hard to know where to look! Morris off 2.25m and Bennett off 3.5m. After coasting in the 300m at the 'Bool Green is looking in form after strong 70m and 300m performances you'd expect the 100m to be right in his wheelhouse. Shout out to J. Ireland after Terang, hope all is ok. Templeton off 4m... Now if anyone's been following some of the AV races... we have another Corey Baker situation with 2 Tom Templeton's!!! Off 4m I'm guessing this may be the younger version!
Portelli off 4.25m he showed the speed at Essendon so should be in the mix here. Jasper Thomas makes the trip and is off 4.5m. Morehouse trained Liyanaarachchi made the Essendon 70m final and has won the Frankston 400m goes from 4.75m.
Acquaro off 4.75m and then Mouratch who showed great ability over the weekend goes from 5m. Tapasu Paea if he's recovered from Geelong is a threat off 5.5m. The Blyzno's off 6m (Timothy) and 6.75m (Samuel) will be looking to stamp some authority over from SA. Hoffman from 7.5m will also be dangerous after his podium finish.
Think the win will come from the back but very VERY excited!

Nice write up Donatello, I think Hoffman will be on the podium. Sharma the journeyman seemed to have turned back the clock and will go close if he runs. Jasper Thomas nice win at Beachside and was good in the heats at Geelong and should final. Very little between JT and Massimo Acquaro in the Geelong SF , so that puts Massimo Acquaro as another finalist.

Pick of the yard for this week is Daniel Mouratch came onto the scene last week in a big way finishing second behind an impressive loukeris.
My crack at the rest of the final
Bennett to be an unlucky 2nd again
Acquaro 3rd
Thomas
Hoffman
S blyzno
Lacey
Brittain

Well it turned into a (soggy) day out at the beach for The Hoff! Be glad sashes aren't won in semi's what a way to seal the deal in the final though! Solid runs from Timberlake and Saye (who seemed very happy to celebrate crossing the line in the semi coming....third????).
Hope the stewards had their eye in for today as there were some shockers over the course, but NAP's and chats have been a bit light on they might have been at the Waverley Aths club BBQ cook up instead!
Only 6 out of 49 voters getting the choccies here, get you kilts ready and grab a caber ready for Maryborough!

Exposed form runners Hoffman and JT, one two. Sharma popular in polls did not run. No shortage of shenanigans and rubber necking in the SF's.

Hoff looked really good but I think maybe more suited to the 100 and not the 120.Thomas slightly disappointing and Morris the run of the race for me after being a little slow to get into stride. Strange that he run but maybe Stawell isn’t the goal this season.
