NSWAL Season 2020/21 Empty NSWAL Season 2020/21

Post by Admin Tue Nov 24, 2020 10:29 pm

Hard to find much information about the 2020/21 Season for the NSWAL. Looks like the VAL have taken over entries for their events. At this point in time only 1 event (Kensington) is on the calendar. Athletes can enter here now for Kensington which will be held on 13 Dec, entries close 9 Dec https://www.val.org.au/SeasonFixture/Kensington(NSW).aspx

The New South Wales Athletics League Facebook page has outlined the Macksville and Queanbeyan Gifts will not run in season 2020/21 which is a huge loss. They NSWAL is aiming to hold 3-4 gifts with minimal prize money, gifts will be held in Sydney and potentially one in Newcastle. Registration fees are $30 for the season. Contact nswal@nswal.org.au for more information.

NSWAL Season 2020/21 Empty Re: NSWAL Season 2020/21

Two new meetings have been added to the NSWAL calendar, which is a positive sign for athletes in NSW. Information is currently on the VAL website, specific links are below.

The following meetings are:

Sylvania > https://www.val.org.au/SeasonFixture/Sylvania(NSW).aspx

Jack Giddy > https://www.val.org.au/SeasonFixture/JackGiddy(NSW).aspx

Sylvania has a unique concept, something I don't think we've seen in the pros before.

"Each competitor will have 3 events – the 70, 110 and the 300 and receive points on where they finish in their heat. For example, if an athlete wins their heat they will receive one point, second 2 points etc. The overall winner will be the person with the lowest score over the three events. If you fail to run in an event you will receive 10 points. Each athlete will need to enter each event."

Such a shame, still remember the gifts at Temora, Narrandera, is Quenbeyan still run?

No Queanbeyan this season due to COVID-19, Macksville is another big loss. Hopefully they both return next season.

Who remembers about 5 years ago when the NSW league had about 20 meets in the season, they had big prize money at Queanbeyan and Botany, there were meets almost every week around the state, Mossy and Robbo were involved, events were well supported by athletes and there was an actual interest in the sport. They also linked some of there pro races alongside the Amateur comps like the Sydney Track Classic and Homebush, they also raced at Wentworth park greyhounds which had a great atmosphere. Need more people like Andrew Muhlhan in this sport to get events up and going.
