Re: Stawell 400 and 800
In the women’s 400m I like Crisp, Casey, Ryan and Reddingius.
In the backies 400m I think it’s wideeeee open. So many chances. This will be a red hot race. I’ll just sit back and enjoy.
I won’t be commenting on the fronties 400m as I am entered in the event.

Some good tips here Tim!
I reckon for the backies the people who stood out for myself is
Matt Burleigh @ 35m - definitely the will be a tough man to catch and to even pass
Dion Paul @ 23m - he's a hard nut, and absolutely blitzes the start (which I love to see)
Ash Liyanaarachchi @ 29 - he's probably my top pick it's hard to go past his overall 400 ability he will be there abouts
Luke Mitchell @ 31m - definitely one of my smokies as I haven't seen him run a 400 since Beachside, and someone with the sprinting ability as he does in the gift it will be interesting to see how he copes over the 400m (that's if he runs it)
And for the Fronties,
Lachlan Milligan @ 39m - he's got that endurance from the longer runs, definitely interested to see how he goes with a few people infront of him that's if he runs the 400
Rory Nunn @ 36m - he is an amazing finisher, definitely would be hard to beat if he can put together an aggressive start and a hard finish
Nick Howard @ 49m - hard to go past his ringwood performance, will definitely be hard to get past
These are just a few that stood out over the past month or so, I havent had a fully look into the womens but Ramona Casey and Ruby Crisp definitely standout for me. However there would definitely be some 'sleeper cells' ready to cause some upsets, and as you said Tim the Backies will completely come down to who is the better athlete on the day! definitely will be a event not to miss
Curious to see that Ryan O'neil Parker isn't entered in stawell after dropping a bomb at Ringwood... maybe he's saving for something special next season

Re: Stawell 400 and 800
The women's 800 consists of only 3 winning chances Lauren Innes Natalie densley and Brian sherry who got back to her good junior form at ringwood.personally I think Innes and densley off 146 and 132 respectively will probably Quinella it.beer mckinley and Deane will as usual all make the final great to see 10 time Israel's national champion landen in it as well as sa state champ Victoria choisi who should final off 18.the women's 400 based on her Frankston win looks a Ruby Crisp benefit off 36 with Nicole Reynolds then kiara reddingus the most likely runners up about 5 metres behind.mens bm 400 is very tough to pick but men's fm 400 the great tim Rosen will certainly be in front turning for home with the crowd roaring only to hit the wall 40 out and finish a gallant 5th.good luck tim

Re: Stawell 400 and 800
Jim I hope you’re right. Because if I’m ahead with 40m to go I’d rather end up in an ambulance than let someone past me. So I hope whoever is trying to go past wants to experience a pain they’ve never felt before. Cos I’m happy to

Re: Stawell 400 and 800
8 heats for the backies and 3 from the fronties.
Last year we saw them bring the front mark to 32 for the backies to allow more heats for the fronties. Will this happen again?

Re: Stawell 400 and 800
Hey quickness noticed you asked about the 400 and 800 but haven't given any opinions particularly on the 8 for what it's worth I will help you out this one time.innes beat densley at Frankston by 4 metres but meets her 8 metres worse and they both looked flat out.sherry let's say had a bye that day but at ringwood gave Innes 62 and beat her by in 8 so 70 but gives her 80 start at Stawell over slightly further distance.they will be top 3 4th 5th and 6th will be martine beer what a legend Amy mckinley back in form after injuries and meg Deane always primed for stawell.heat times irrelevant only 27 entered 22 turn up and the big 5 or 6 jog through to final like last year when Woodward qualified fastest then everyone in the know including me jumped on Emily dalziel at 2.8 after watching her jog the heat and cleaned up.just watch Innes and densley in the heats see who you think did it easier ignore the times and there's your winner.tim I will carry you to the ambulance give it your all a lot of people hope you get that stawell win.i just honestly believe as you said in a previous post you don't quite have the natural ability to win the 400 fm but I wish you the best and if you come top 2 I am a man of my word will reveal myself and buy you your first 3 drinks of your choice at the gift hotel Monday night cheers

Re: Stawell 400 and 800
I have tried to have a bit of a look at the 400s over the past few weeks. Sometimes is hard to wait around that late in the day to watch. I remember doing the 4’a as a youngster back at school pre 2000, how things have changed. Luke Mitchell looks like a strong young boy. Betting ?

Re: Stawell 400 and 800
Luke Mitchell's top 4 finishes at rye and beachside were solid and he has the 200 speed to put himself in or near the front early which is critical at Stawell with everyone going hard butcunless he has about 5 metres up his sleeve that I haven't seen I don't think he could win the final cheers hop

The 400 at Stawell should be a big deal. Splitting the mens into two races in this day and age with so few entries is a joke. Surely you'd rather know you're the winner of the 400 at Stawell, rather than one of two winners. So many in this sport with a little aths/participation award mentality wanting easy money and sashes wouldn't see it this way but surely it's a blight on the sport if you look at it as an outsider. Combine them, make it half decent prize money and if some aren't up to it bad luck.

Re: Stawell 400 and 800
100% Jacob D. Front and Back 400’s are fine when there warrants the numbers, similar to the 2 mile has done in the past. An 8/3 split of the F/M and B/M is a little nonsensical. As there is no defined 400 F/M or B/M limit in the regs, a 50/50 split of the entries should be the most common sense application? 3 heats of an open race at Stawell is a little embarrassing tbh.
