2023 Ringwood 400m Men's Gift

This week marks the 43rd year of the Ringwood Gift, and some big names have won this race previously, so who adds their name to the list this weekend?

52 entries here, with Luke Stevens starting as the backmarker off 2m. Last years winner Jake Stevens is entered and off 20m.

I’m keen to see Burleigh get up. I love the way he goes about long sprints, and it’d be poetic after his injury issues and misfortune in the Stawell final last year.

Paul Hughes for the win. In form master athlete with wins across 120, 300 and 800 the past month. Set up nicely for a 200m tilt at Stawell and with 42m, this weeks 400m is not beyond him.

Hughes is handicapped 6.25m infront of Angelakos in the 120 and he's 6 m behind him in the 400m. At those marks Angelakos meets Hughes much more favourable at 400m.

I ve always found these swings at different distances hard to understand. Noted is different amount of ticks or relative runs at a distance. Probably the need for a more generic handicapping based on average rpm across different distances.

As good as Hughes has been the last couple weeks, alarm bells will be ringing if he goes past Angelakos. if Noddy decides to run, he better finish pretty close, otherwise there may be some issues

Eager to see how SA boy Petherick goes off 46, looks to be a Lone Ranger travelling over. Has shown a lot of hunger in each race I’ve seen him run this year. Should take one of the final spots

I was watching live, I'm not buying it. He didn't move at all. Stewarding has been strict, but Noddy derseves an oscar for pulling this one off.

Im going with Dion to take this one out based on his Keilor run. His run at Shep last week suggests he is hitting his straps and ready to take another sash home. Noddy and Greg Mitchell should be thereabouts

In the 200m im going with Luke Baker. Has 13m, ran 21.2 at Stawell a couple years ago off 12m. Track adjustments suggest he'll be going mid to low 20's
