Just wondering how Ben Wilson got to 32 in his first ever open 400. Entered Maryborough last year had 20 and didn’t run, then gets 32 this year and wins.

A few impressive results from yesterday’s meeting.

None more impressive than Isabella Hollins! 13.9 off 10m in the juniors. Has that mark in the women’s gift so I’m excited to see her bring that form to the women’s gift.

Wish she had entered and at least brought the total number of female gift runners to 20! Seriously not good enough for a 15k race. Shouldn’t be entitled to that next year if the entries don’t pick up. Well done to Cassandra though on the win, very impressive performance for a well established pro runner.

Surely end of season questions need to be asked why athletes aren’t attending Maryborough. I get that it’s during a busy time of the year, holiday wise and carnival wise, but this hasn’t changed in how many years? 19 starters in the women’s gift, 6 starters in the vets mile, 8 starters in a straight women’s 400 final, 17 starters in the open 800.
Either coaches or athletes don’t know, don’t care, or both, how historically important and prestigious it is to win a race at a meeting like Maryborough. 167 years of history!
I’m sure this will take me off a few people’s Christmas card lists, but in each event at Stawell this year, there will only be 1 winner, and if that’s your agenda, good luck to you, but if I thought I was not a realistic chance to win at Easter, I’d be doing my damnedest to win a sash at a meeting like Maryborough, that’s for sure.

On a seperate note, I thought Fixon Sport did a great job with the livestream this year (take note MySportLive). They've been doing plenty of good things this season, in particular their drone footage, mic'd up sessions have been highlights, and the Enforcer's videos have been my personal favourite!

You can rewatch all the action here:

Maryborough Gift 2024 Livestream https://www.youtube.com/live/knGcQcM14_0?si=4NjFtA_FCb_XwGH3&t=1

They've also started uploading each individual race to their channel, so keep an eye out for those.

Well said Downsey. Some sashes have more meaning than others and Maryborough is certainly one of those. With the winners retaining their winning mark for Stawell in both the Gifts and other races, it is hard to believe more runners don’t want to get to these iconic meets.

Agreed Downsey! Would happily welcome and be very proud of any Maryborough Sash!

Hope the stewards were out in force on NYD as there were some absolute atrocities in that 200m. Jogging left right and centre, massive improvements following lifts of more than 2 seconds (especially compared with Essendon on a rubber track!).

I get its an OGA event but a number of runners have got to be questioned with their efforts and why on earth there were such significant lifts given after Essendon. Honestly seen more intent and better pace in 550's than some of those heat runs.

Nothing new. 200s are always shit. Handicapped bad for years. No one tries but Stawell. Maryborough and Essendon same as always people just want lifts
