Based on track speed I.e Hastings slow, frankston uphill headwind, Warrnambool too fast, Castlemaine fast down hill hard, waverly always slow thick grass, Ballarat fast. St Albans uphill slow. Terang slow. Maryrybnong slow uphill.

The previous winners in recent time have come from slow track wins.

Despard - St Albans
Chico - Hastings
Ware - Maryrybnong

My top 4. In any order
Lindstrom- Terang 120m, strong 70m at Hastings.
Antonio - Hastings 120m. Second waverly.
Morris - Strong won at Waverly over Antonio, and flying at Frankston before hammy. (If he can get back to that form).
Tom Griffin - St Albans front runner hard to run down.

Other possible finalists
Green, Nettlefield, Riali.

It's going to be super competitive this year.

Some chances will depend on how much the field is lifted should Browning enter.
The field could move out 1-2m
1m lift will put Lindstrom near the limit and push Antonino & Griffin past the limit. Besides  Ant and Griff wouldn't win their own stable trials  Wink
I like someone who hasn't won yet this year. Just not sure if it is this year or next. If he wins in the next month then it is on.

Nope. A stablemate of someone who has had a gift win this year.

T Perry can go in the conversation once he's won a gift.
Don't dismiss Green after Wangaratta. He's unfortunate to break ceiling time and miss the lift but he did not look all out in the run.
Unlike Ireland last year who came back at Stawell off his 1 fast sample time, Green has the benefit of a rule change and his 2 best samples are taken. Therefore his fast time is diluted and he keeps his handicap.

J.Lugo is next year off the limit. Stuffed if I know how he is that far out after last years antics

Great get there Zonked. Kerr is right in the mix now. Great run to a run similar time to his Ballarat run on that track today. Can handle all conditions the young lad and that may be very handy at Stawell

Kerr has played it extremely well this season, started the year off 7.75, ticked his way out to 8.75 and then targets a slow track and easy win at maribyrnong, takes a 0.5m lift to stawell which gets him to 9.25. Meets many athletes much better off compared to start of the year. Smart. Zonked you were all over it.

The Ballarat relay gave it away. He absolutely blew Patrick Martin away.
He had a rush of blood which showed form he had not showed earlier in the day or year.

It was a huge leg he ran in that relay. I thought resting Antonino meant he was the stables big shot but now I’m definitely leaning more to Kerr as Fiedlers best chance.

The next athlete who will be a chance at Stawell hasn't even run yet. But given 5m for Bendigo with a 10.65 in Adelaide recently is a joke. Another first run in first win straight up. These start marks are a joke. Especially when a new athletes with track pbs recent of 12 flat are also given 6m novice. This is crazy.

Well done nicolosi , great win.

Nicolosi can't win. He retired years ago after winning Stonnington and the Don Furness.

Why would the field get lifted?
Torrie had scratch at Bendigo so will have scratch for Stawell or even get lifted for running at Bendigo.

Do you know the rules zonked?. No lift for place getters. And the field was lifted at Bendigo for torrie. Her 11.33 track pb worked out to a 121.5 handicap on grass. Impossible to get a lift. Winner shilito ran off 11.25 when handicap originally is 10.50 for 100m.

Do you know the rules? I do.
2nd & 3rd placegetters at Bendigo receive 1 tick. Torrie is OGA so is entitled for a discretionary lift.
Your calculations are irrelevant. It is handicappers decision.
What I did not know is the field were lifted for Bendigo. That is not a rule but a handicapper discretionary decision.

Did I here correct 123 entries in men's gift and over 100 in the women's too. This is great. And those particular people wanting the womens limit pushed out to 13m. Pffft what a joke. Looks like enough entries to me.

Spot on STR we don’t need the limit put out to 13m. Over 100 entries for the Womens is fantastic and here’s hoping for a star studded final
