DOCKLANDS GIFT - FRIDAY 18TH FEBRUARY

Entries are now open for the upcoming Docklands Gift.

Well done to the VAL for stepping in and making it happen. With Stonnington no longer around (BRING IT BACK), it will give athletes an opportunity to race on a Friday night and enjoy the weekend off.

Howdy ETH, prize money for some may be important, however I think it’s important to remember that a lot goes in behind the scenes to put on events like these. After a turbulent few years of cancelled/postponed events, I think most athletes would be happy to have the opportunity to run on as many weekends as possible through the summer.

We can’t also forget that a lot of sponsorship comes from peoples pockets who love the sport and want to see it thrive for years to comes.

I think we can all agree that a Friday night meet has been missing on our calendar for quite some time and the VAL have worked tirelessly in the lead up to be able to put on this event. Trust me when I say the finals under lights, city skyline and Bolte bridge will be amazing!

Ps the timetable has been tailored to Vic Championships so that after the heats on Friday they can scoot down the road for the Gift & 400m races

I know of a sponsr who has sponsored two different gift meetings (and saved at least one last year) who wasn't even contacted to sponsor again this year. Eventually took the $$ off to another sport

Interestingly I think if you were to look at the entry lists... I can barely see any who have entered Vic Champs and this meet. I think there's 2 female athletes entered in the 100m at Vic Champs and Docklands 100m gift and no male athletes entered in both (could be wrong).

Love the idea of a Friday night comp, but timetabling it at the same time as Vic States when the 100m heats are on the Friday night i think impacts a number of entries and not in a positive way. Trying to accommodate both is probably unnecessary in this instance in my opinion and simply trying to provide some feedback.
