Who will win the 2023 Geelong 100m Men's Gift?
2023 Geelong 100m Men's Gift
With the Geelong Gift a little earlier this year we see Cooper Sherman line up as the backie off the short mark of 1.5m but he will have his work cut out for him to chase down some fierce competition!
Riali (1.75m), Morris (2.75m), and Ireland (4m) all coming off the back of strong performances over the 200m at Essendon, Kerr lining up off 2m will challenge as well not to mention Bennett of 3.5m pushing for that elusive gift win. Colgrave off 3.75m seems to be a mistake for the young runner originally from the Apple Isle. We see Jasper Thomas run from 4.25 and Liyanaarachchi will be dangerous from 4.75m after making the 70m final at Essendon.
Moving further up the field Tristan Schiers is always one to keep an eye on and a mark of 5m could be enough to get him a finals look. The shorter distance would suit Paea running from 5.5m whilst Jared Glover has been having a sensational start to the season and will go from 5.5m as well.
Will he run......? Acquaro with 5.75m, 6 x runs under 10.9 and 2 x runs under 10.8 this year alone suggests there could be a low-10 run from that mark. He was my pick for Essendon and based on the mark and ability he's my pick again for Geelong!

Re: 2023 Geelong 100m Men's Gift
Before people get frazzled, Mass’s 100m mark is 4.75m. His 120m mark is 5.75m. It’s just an admin error.
As for Colgrave, he ran off 6m in the 100m at Cobden. It’s just a typo. It will be fixed.
Great field this weekend! Tough to even make a semi.

Re: 2023 Geelong 100m Men's Gift
Thomas and my man Massimo are the obvious ones to beat here. Jasper is better suited to the 100m distance and only comes down to take wins. Won beachside and came 2nd behind Saye Morris at Waverley. Saye should be thereabouts after a couple good runs at Essendon, however, he may have injured himself in the final of the 200m. Fingers crossed he’s ready to go and can be close in the final
Tom Perry and Jackson Bennet should be in the final

Pick of the yard is Bennett to finally pop the gift cherry, a lot of placings in previous years but surly it’s his time, after a solid start to the season thus far.
Acquaro and Thomas to round out the top 3, with young Glover the Smokey to steal it from all of them
Thoughts? “Best bets” we haven’t heard much from you this year?

Don’t think there was an injury from Saye in the final
Either ran out of juice or the handbreak was applied
Wondering if it’s time for the lugo jnr handbreak to be released

Hmmm cheers pick of the yard for the shoutout, the late mail is 'Jimmy' Barnes this week, I heard from a close friend he's ready to unleash

Awesome that the Women’s and Men’s Gifts are the last events on the program, where they should always be.

Morris storms home to take this one, with Bennett second and Ireland closing out the podium. Punters had no luck with the winner this round but hope there were a few each way bets.
Eager to see the day Bennett gets the choccies, not sure we've seen a runner giving it a crack week-in week-out more than him in recent memory!

Agree Donatello Re: Bennett. He has had more 2nd's than hot dinners. I'm sure many would be happy to see him win a big race and hopefully also make a Stawell Gift final.
