First Glance at some Bay Marks
Well it's definitely classy enough with Bay back at Colley! I'm no P. Young but some Office thoughts...
Having a squiz at some of the marks:
Fejiro Omuvwie on 3m in the 70m? Gotta be a prank, he ran 10.29 in January and had 1m in the Stawell 70m in 2021.
Anas Abu Ganaba on 2.50m in the Gift... a 10.28 personal best and a windy 10.26 in 2020 but starts 0.5m ahead of Fejiro (2.00m) and 1.5m ahead of Dhruv with a 10.27 windy PB (yes Stawell gift winner sure)...
Cailen Hejka off 6.75m in the Gift... seen his form last weekend winning easily off the same mark in 12.2 (ran 12.2 in heat semi and final!) gotta be short odds.
Chad Perris off 7.75m... fast amateur time 10.7 recently has to mean a threat
Aaron Leferink off 6.00m is a solid bump up on his 2021 Burnie 12.2s winning mark of 5.50m
Corey Baker off 10.00m has been smashing it off 9.00m in VIC so hard to actually go past this one...
Bay, Beach, Bar afterwards. Dwigt?

Michael hanna coming off a win in the rich kilcoy gift and the terang gift. Still maintains his mark of 2.5m. Laughable.

The Corey Baker mark is the mark he had in SA when he won a race that was non penalty for The Bay. It is the mark he should have.

Add Jessie Andrew to the list, Vic 200m champ this year beating the likes of J Payne. She has the mark of 4.50 at bay definitely one to watch

Oh Jimothy,
Surely the mark of M. Hanna raised your thick eyebrows, the man keeps on winning gifts but seems to retain his mark for yet another big race.
And yes, Leferink off 6m looks wrong. Hard to ignore his Burnie form off a lesser mark.
Not sure if either will beat Ganaba or Hejka, but still…

Some coaches are sycophants. It’s been apart of pro running forever. Not much can be done. It will be good racing.

Saal is saying it will begin at 5.30pmdonatello wrote:Looks like Day 1 at the Bay Sheffield is under lights at night!
I hope not, they are opening themselves well and truly up if something was to happen .
The saal wrote the rules.
17.2 Hot Weather Policy
In the event that the expected highest temperature for a race day is estimated to be 38 degrees or
above, at the carnival location as shown on the Bureau of Meteorology website two days before the
race day, the first race on the program will not be held before 6 p.m. If this is not possible the race
meeting may be postponed or cancelled.
The saal have said that the first race will not be held before 6.00pm.
They now cant turn around and program to start at 5.30m because they need to get the races in.

What’s wrong with accomodating for athletes/officials/spectators etc by starting at 5:30pm? It’s an excellent idea, well done to the SAAL for being proactive.

It’s a summer sport. By 5.30 the temperature is predicted to be 35-36, so that seems fine to me. No one is forcing people to compete.

I hear what you say Sanchez and I dont disagree with you .
The problem I have is the exact rule ... the first race on the program will not be held before 6 p.m.....that the saal have made , they are now not respecting.
It doesnt say may, could ,it says WILL NOT.
Why make rules that you expect athletes to respect then take a total disregard to them yourself.

Check BOM for Glenelg Sanchez
At 1:30 AM 4:30 AM 7:30 AM 10:30 AM 1:30 PM 4:30 PM 7:30 PM 10:30 PM
Air temperature (°C)25 27 29 36 40 40 36 32
Not sure where you got your prediction but I would suggest around 38 for 5.30pm going by what BOM Glenelg have predicted.

Even more laughable , use to run off 15m over 120m as junior in NSWAL, and won every gift there. A few former handicappers/those in the know helping them out how to best work the system and retain mark.

Re: First Glance at some Bay Marks
The mark for Michael Hanna is not laughable if you did your homework and conducted a proper analysis of the field.
In the context of this field and the SA handicapping for it, the handicapper has deemed 2.50m to be appropriate. I have Michael Hanna in the top 10 but when push comes to shove - I can’t squeeze him into the top 6.

“In the context of the field” Geez. He is coming off 2 big wins. Over 5k in prize money. And the handicapper still decides not to pull him off his winning mark. Let’s stop comparing athletes to each other and just go off the maths and previous results. Just because he may not be able to win does not mean he should not be pulled for his winning performances.

Re: First Glance at some Bay Marks
Plenty of handicapping roles out there if you think you can do better.
This is SA, so maybe appreciate the handicap is in line with the SAAL’s approach.
Anyway marks are done & dusted. .
Offer your top 6 & let’s see how close you get.
Enjoy what will be a great race.
