Re: Wangaratta Results
As BT would say for this comp "Wowee!"
Tzilantonis found 10 seconds from Keilor off the same mark in the Women's 400m!
Ireland going 12.01... Yikes, if that was a Stawell heat run, I'd be straight to the bookies!
Strong run from Boulton in the 70m, seemed a fair few scratchings though?
Fighera nearly getting up from 0.50! Giving up a 21.5m start!

Ireland also gets a 0.75m lift for Stawell, you'd think off 9.5m he's simply unbeatable. He'll have to start the favourite by a long way.

Speedy does he lose that for breaking ceiling?

Re: Wangaratta Results
He broke ceiling by 2.25m - 2.5m. He loses that as of his next start this year gets no bonus.
Hove and Baird also lost their eligibility for any bonus this year because they ran 12.26/12.27. They could maybe get 0.25m bonus max.

I wasn't aware that was a rule, that's a shame for him and the others.

Re: Wangaratta Results
Those rules have always existed.
You break ceiling you go back to it. You can not be handicapped underneath it. So Ireland goes back to 6.50m and can’t have anymore this year. Baird and Hove can only get 0.25m because they have run 12.26/12.27 this year. Any extra mark is only permissible provided the extra bit doesn’t make them go under 12.25m.
A bonus can only be given provided, it doesn’t take you under 12.25 on your fastest run this year or secondly under 12.25m on your pre season ratings, and it has also always been included in the bonus rule structures since the bonus system was introduced.

Actually he goes back to 6.25m. He can’t be under 12.25m based on his fastest run this year.

I had him on 6.25m as well but his new mark is 5.75m according to the entry list for Maribyrnong. A little additional pull on the side it seems.

12.008 - 0.25s under ceiling perhaps = 2.5m
6.25m
0.5m for the win?
5.75m
Not sure if thats how they'd work it out

Re: Wangaratta Results
12.008/111.25 = 0.10793...
12.25/0.10793... = 113.49...
120 - 113.49... = 6.50...
So a pull back to ceiling of 12.25 would give a mark of 6.50m.
The minimum penalty based on the prize money for winning Wangaratta of 0.75m is then applied, taking Jake back to 5.75m.
12.25/0.10793... = 113.49...
120 - 113.49... = 6.50...
So a pull back to ceiling of 12.25 would give a mark of 6.50m.

Re: Wangaratta Results
Tom,
The fastest singular performance during the current year forms the new cut off for this season making his ceiling mark 6.25m. The additional penalty to 5.75m would be additional discretionary pull.
For next year his rpm will be calculated using his fastest in the last two years and his next fastest in the last 5 years starting at a mark from 12.45secs. Meaning he will go back about further 1.5m next season.

Re: Wangaratta Results
I understand about the additional pull for the start of next season, but when an athlete breaks ceiling time during the season, I thought the sequence was:
1) Pull back to 12.25 (ceiling) based on the single fastest run (12.008), then
2) Apply minimum penalty.
Are you saying that the minimum penalty is built in to the pull to ceiling?

Re: Wangaratta Results
Ta. Appreciate the clarification. Is Jake still OGA for gift distances? Would that be the likely reason for the additional pull?

Re: Wangaratta Results
The additional was probably to make sure he want just sitting on 12.25 ceiling which would still be advantageous over the rest. But that was the handicappers call.

Re: Wangaratta Results
Is that the same for all handicap calculations? That the “minimum penalty” is built into the pull back to ceiling (during a season) or back to start time (between seasons)?

Re: Wangaratta Results
Yes, however Stawell win and finalist penalties must apply on top of start time. An additional penalty for winning an event can also be applied, albeit not always. It has been in the past since the introduction of the bonuse system and people not running much after they win.

Re: Wangaratta Results
That makes sense. I tried to get an answer from the HRP in the past on why DRC’s pull for the start of 20/21 was supposed to be 8.5m, but previous winners were only pulled 4m if the Stawell win penalty came after a pull to Start time. Nothing was forthcoming.

Re: Wangaratta Results
There are no additional penalties applied to the two ratings as per the handicapping guidelines next season unless
1. The win was a group 1 or classic
2. The athlete was in a Stawell Gift final.

Fernando, iirc the additional penalty we were discussing re: Jake, was the pull to start time based on 2&5.

Stawell win penalty and finalist penalties still apply after rpm reduction to 12.45.

Jake’s current pull is to ceiling time 12.25 plus an additional discretion of 0.50m.
His start mark next year will be less because it re-calculates to 12.45.

Yeah, that’s what I meant by start time (12.45) based on his best RPMs from the past 2 and 5 seasons.
