Re: SAAL Calendar Season 2022/23
You are completely right MaxFly, its a Blue Ribbon Event and also a memorial race.
Is always a good hit out for the Bay and athletes try and do the 70m /200m double.
I can remember Leon Burckhardt doing the double way back in 2001.
And for those that want to know how he went at the Bay, he got beaten by .067 in his semi , in otherwards a lip.
I think theres a couple of Flinders athletes on the Committee so maybe direct you query to one of them.

Really Maxfly, Blue Ribbon event, please! Clearly a one eyed sprint who thinks the sun revolves around them! Whisperer, expected more from you! Little race called the David Abbott Memorial 3200m from a distance running club that has dominated & help shape both the SAAL & ASA in its 43 year history. So, c’mon boys, remove your head from your backside & stop believing your own

Re: SAAL Calendar Season 2022/23
Jords, If you read my post i clearly stated "one of the blue ribbon" events. I completely hold high regards for the distance events and have had many mates compete in the 2miler. A fantastic race in great honour.
My point is like the 2mile race there arent many in a season and they do benefit the sprinters gearing up for Bay and often is a great race to go after.
My main Question was why so many 300's? Where's the variety when we used to have have 3 x 200m races in a season. I'll will go remove my head from my ass now and go chat with the flinders crew.

First of all, Well Done to the Three athletes who put their hand up and hand into their pocket to put the womens 800m on at Marion.SA Whisperer wrote:Hi Kym
My suggestion is for the womens 0ver 30 300m to go to an womens Over 35 300m.
Create a new race over 800m for Open Women.
The girls who run the 550m womens on Day 1 dont run the Gift and seldom run the 1600m on Day 2 so what do they do.The sit on the mound watching athletics all day or dont turn up.
When you match the number of races for Under 18 , Over 35 and Men the Open women are probably down one race.
Also more appealing for interstate longer sprint athletes to come to the Bay Carnival if they can run two races the 550m and 800m.
Maybe two heats and final.
Yep, numbers have fallen away in this event in recent years, but we all know why.So lets rejuvenate this race.
Dont want to hear , But we have never done it like that, Lets just do it.
The announcement of the event, was at a later notice, than other events.
Yet the numbers for the 800m womens ........13 Compares very well with the Open ...10 and Open 1600m...12
In this age of equaility , lets put the 800m on for women at the Bay , why should they miss out.
Like I mentioned before , it would give female interstate athletes a 550m and 800m to run in and be able to run both days.
First meeting of the season and brought in at later notice the numbers are there.
Now , those athletes that have nominated , turn up and support the three athletes who have supported you and you never know what may happen.

Well done to the 12 athletes who turned up to compete yesterday in the Womens 800m.
You have supported the three athletes who stuck their hands in their pockets to put on the race.
You have also put a strong case up for this race to be included at the Bay Sheff carnival, on equality alone it should be .
Only 6 athletes competed in the 1600m open and 9 in the 800m open.
Well done to Sarah, Paige and Conner for promoting the race..
Surely after yesterday the Saal will see reason to include the event in 2022 at the Bay.

Jords maybe would have been good to come on here and give the race a pump up.Yogizz wrote:Really Maxfly, Blue Ribbon event, please! Clearly a one eyed sprint who thinks the sun revolves around them! Maybe a form guide .
I think its going to be a thriller.
Killmier ...going faster now than when he got a speeding ticket on the way to race at Whyalla once.
Carter ....in peak form earlier in the season before injury , if hes come back from that will be hard to catch.
Handicapper has done a great job in making sure the backies will be all over the fronties in the last lap.
What a great 3200 to watch.
Im expecting yogizz to give the Killer the drag up when he needs it. !!! For me its Killmier.

Re: SAAL Calendar Season 2022/23
Mitchell brought his good Athleticssa 10000 form to Flinders and got the cake over Killmier.
Handicapper doing a good job with low handicaps coming through to be in the finish and front markers staying in the race for a good part as well
Definately what you want to see fronties and backies all with a chance for the dais.
That was in the 3200m and 800m open.
However there is probably a bit of work to do with the womens 800m and a lot of the problem stems from what the handicapper has inherited.
I would be dragging the entire field back 20m.And lifting the ceiling.
Marion Womens 800m Winner ..180m, third 140m
Flinders womens 800m 150m ...Second 140m
Winners can not do anything but turn up and run off the handicap given and full marks for doing just that.
But after the first two Womens 800m races we have seen the winners run 620m and 650m respectively.
Thats 0ne and a half laps.
Like I said I think the handicapper will be all over it.
Well done to the girls for turning up and supporting the league and keep pushing for an 800m at the bay for Women , you never know what may happen.
