Re: SAAL Calendar Season 2022/23
6 weeks out from the first meeting and we dont know wether the season goes past Loxton Feb 18th or what handicap system we are running under.
The Whispers doing the streets is that the Review of the handicap system came back far damaging then expected.
All I can say is, if those that are on the committee or in official positions , do not want to respect the review then close the door on the way out.

With the Bay going back to a 2 day event, is there a race schedule listed anywhere, as to what is on which day?

Re: SAAL Calendar Season 2022/23
With all due respect to the SAAL the State Relay Champs were moved from early/mid December to the 20th of November last year (which was too early) to now the 26th Nov. They should in my opinion be held just after State Champs as a more of an end of season thing.
It would be nice if ASA and SAAL could (if they dont already) hold a joint meeting to discuss comp dates to best suit both comps prior to releasing the seasons schedule.

Re: SAAL Calendar Season 2022/23
Hi,
We are in constant contact with ASA and they are aware and have been aware that we have had the Mt Gambier meet booked in for some time on this date.
Mt Gambier links in with a couple of major events and it is their preferred time. ASA chose to move their date of the relay champs. I agree it would be much better to have it at the end of the season.
Glad you said with all due respect

Re: SAAL Calendar Season 2022/23
Hi Kym
My suggestion is for the womens 0ver 30 300m to go to an womens Over 35 300m.
Create a new race over 800m for Open Women.
The girls who run the 550m womens on Day 1 dont run the Gift and seldom run the 1600m on Day 2 so what do they do.The sit on the mound watching athletics all day or dont turn up.
When you match the number of races for Under 18 , Over 35 and Men the Open women are probably down one race.
Also more appealing for interstate longer sprint athletes to come to the Bay Carnival if they can run two races the 550m and 800m.
Maybe two heats and final.
Yep, numbers have fallen away in this event in recent years, but we all know why.So lets rejuvenate this race.
Dont want to hear , But we have never done it like that, Lets just do it.

Hi SA Whisperer,
I am not personally handling this. It is done by our operations committee (much better to give people jobs - then they can do it). Here is my suggestion for this one - email us asap with the suggestion and it will then be forwarded to the right people. Then if the committee think its a good idea they can make contact to sort it through.

SAAL 2022/23 SEASON DRAFT
For those interested Season draft of races for front of season on team app.
Hi Kym
Races MDRF............I would assume Restricted, Backmarkers men and Backmarkers women 120m should all be placed on Bay Sheff listing not MDRF

Highlighting, that the document had been edited, or correcting it in a reissued draft would have been more acceptable.
Some people would have already read the draft and copied it.

We all certainly hope so. It was a great start with the appointment of Leon and from all accounts its fantastic news for the Bay Sheffield carnival. The fact the Bay Sheffield is at Colley Reserve and the input into handicapping along with the Seven+ news that Kym referred to is also a massive tick.

Hi Shane,
Curious to hear about the outcome of your email to the league/committee with your numerous grievances.
Amusing that you intend to give them a deadline of when they need to reply to all of your issues, otherwise you will 'go public' on this forum. Who are you to make demands again?
Perhaps review the SAAL social media policy prior to teeing off on your ill-mannered rants.
Thommo interesting to note you have issue with a document being altered after being published - thoughts on Shane removing half of his thinly veiled hostile post? Probably for the best, wouldn't you think?

Unlike circumstances involving yourself in the past Colin, good dialog with the new and much improved committee a retraction was required.
Upon reflection they have so much to do to amend the issues of the past 2 years, I as with some others need to remain patient. Unlike the past I have every confidence in the ability of those that are now on the committee.
I have emailed the office with some suggestions which they can consider if they choose to do so.

Hey Shane. I have no idea who Sherlock is but it isn't me. I was told you were still having a go at me so I logged on to have a laugh. As I'm no longer involved in the sport other than dropping my kids off to run, find someone else to have a go at.

MESSAGE FROM KYM STEER
Normally my responses use the words we and us as in the main it is about the league however today this is personal so you will see the use of the word I.
Some weeks ago I decided to respond to comments on this forum with a view to creating meaningful dialogue between supporters of Professional Athletics I provided my name and mobile number and tried to provide information which dispelled rumours with a view that the nature of the interactions on the forum would change.
The latest post specifically referencing our Past - President shows that my attempts to change the nature of these interactions has failed.
For anyone under a pseudonym to make comments in a forum that goes to an individuals parenting and to specifically mention that persons children is abhorrent and unacceptable
I have known Colin for many years. We may disagree on aspects of our sport but Colins passion and work ethic for the sport has been outstanding and his love and support for his children matches this and is unquestionable.
Pious observations such as the writer made does not disguise the messages intent and that was to publicly demean and harass an individual.
Mort Daly a league benefactor provided much of his life savings to help us further a sport where people felt physically and mentally safe. It was one of the reasons I took on the role of President and one of the key reasons we introduced a social media policy which would help provide a safer environment in which to operate. This post is in direct contradiction of what I believe in morally and SAAL social media rules.
SAAL have contacted the moderator of the site and asked them to remove the post. Furthermore I have asked the SAAL to investigate who may be responsible for the post and if that person is a member of the League they can expect to have the policy applied to them. We will not hesitate to take legal action if that is required.
Effective immediately I will no longer post on this site as it is untenable that I would be associated with this comment. The SAAL will now looking to create another social media vehicle outside of Facebook where appropriate commentary and good natured banter can occur.
My final comment is to make a request of the individual who posted this. Take the post down and provide an apology to a good man whom gave a lot to the League.

Re: SAAL Calendar Season 2022/23
Hi all,
Kym, I appreciate you coming on here and expressing your opinion, it is exactly what this forum is all about. I will remove what I believe is the post you are referring to, as I think it has crossed a line.
I will refer back to one of the Forum Rules ‘To report an objectionable post, contact the admin or a moderator via a private message.’
In future though, if you feel that something needs to be removed, or taken down, please don’t hesitate to send a private message to Admin. When you report an abuse, I do not know the exact post you are talking about, it only links me to the thread and therefore I am unable to do much. Just to clarify, the forum Admin has not had any direct contact from the SAAL regarding removal of a post.
After reading this thread, and other threads on the topic of the SAAL, I feel that we need to find a happy medium.
Leagues need to be willing to take on feedback and criticism from its members, whilst members need to be respectful towards the leagues and be mindful of any personal attacks on others. At the end of the day, we all want what is best for the sport and sometimes this means a difference of opinion, however things do not need to get personal, especially on an online forum.
Lastly, I’d highly encourage somebody from the SAAL to take on a Moderation role for the SAAL Talk Forum, it would assist myself greatly and this is something we should put in place. My focus is mostly on the Moderation of the VAL Talk Forum, so I’d strongly encourage someone (ideally who has an understanding of the SAAL Social Media Policy) to be a Moderator. Please send Admin a Private Message if you are interested in this.
I too, would like the forum to be a place where members can voice appropriate commentary, and where good natured banter can occur.
Admin.

Not sure if i missed something but is there a reason behind not running a 200m event at Flinders? We seem to be very 300m heavy and run the risk now of having no opportunity to compete over this distance.

I understand the change for last season as the Flinders oval wasn't prepared for the carnival in time, However it is back at Flinders university where traditionally we have always held a 200m race for unders, opens and vets. The oval looks in much better condition this year and my question is if we are back at the university grounds, why don't we have one of the blue ribboned events back?
