A few incorrect marks, not a great start 🤨
Aside from that I can’t look past Patrick Martin here, he’s your winner.

There's a well established modus operandi for certain stables whose only intention at Cobden & Mortlake is to accumulate ticks.
No intention of winning anything until they've exhausted the tick lifts before winning a bonus race, generally something of value like Rye, Wangaratta or Ballarat.
My guess, about 25 to 30% of the field are in this category.
You should check out the stables that do not play games, your winner will come from there.

Well established certain stables aka team fielder, pod squad , speed clinic , Ireland squad.
Is that about accurate?

Re: Mortlake men’s gift
Can’t believe we’re seeing the return of Tom Pellow!
Could’ve easily avoided the sport after Stawell, good to see he’s moved past it, making the trek out to Cobden, and ready to give it another crack again.
He’s my pick for the weekend, what a story that’ll be
Dwight K Schrute
Dunder Mifflin Scranton

Re: Mortlake men’s gift
Wow we
Protected species getting protected yet again!
Ireland was originally 1.5m now 3m, endale 3m now 3.5m, Lacey 4.25m, now 5.25m. Wish I was making this up.
Let’s just call the VAL a government controlled service.
Anyone who doesn’t see any issues with the above is kidding themselves
This isn’t Harry Potter about “He who shall not be named”

Woodchopper, do you just make comments without checking facts?
Those athletes mentioned were allocated the wrong starting handicaps according to the rules. It happens. But they have been corrected now. Would you prefer the handicapper leave them on the incorrect marks?
I belong to none of those groups, but I am glad they have been fixed. Every athletes marks should be handicapped by the same rules. No matter which squad you come from.

Re: Mortlake men’s gift
Why do you look at the two of my marks and assume 1.5m the correct one? Clearly unsure of the rules or have a broken calculator
As Tim said, they have been corrected so everyone is handicapped within the rules. That hardly makes any of us a ‘protected species’

Mate, you were the runner-up and won the rye gift ($6K prize). You’ve got a 2m pull based on your winning rye mark, but they need to adjust you from that mark, not your inflated bonus mark from Stawell.
Is that not protected?
Pellow receives 2.5m.

Re: Mortlake men’s gift
Don’t just name races without identifying the allocated pull for that race. 5m at Rye, 1.25m pull for that win. Brings me back to 3.75m, plus an extra 0.75m for Stawell runner up.
I’m not making this up, written in the actual rules.

Re: Mortlake men’s gift
As of this evening it looks like these are the only adjustments on the VAL website (so far).
Jake Ireland 1.5m now 3m
Endale Mekonnen 3m now 3.5m
Jack Lacey 4.25m now 5.25m
Hugh Hoffman 7.75m now 8.5m
Corey Baker (SA) 8m now 8.75m
All of these seem to be fair adjustments. Lacey shouldn’t be asking for anything after his wins last season. But if the re-handicap is based on the rules then so be it.
