Re: Bay Sheffield Day 1 Results
Oh Bay... (not day 1 results but mens gift)
Semi 1 - 12.20 (10.75m) 2nd - 12.35 (5.75m)
Semi 2 - 12.31 (8.25m) 2nd - 12.40 (5.50m)
Semi 3 - 12.29 (6.50m) 2nd - 12.33 (2.50m)
Semi 4 - 12.14 (10.00m) 2nd - 12.41 (10.50m)
Semi 5 - 12.23 (6.25m) 2nd - 12.25 (9.75m)
Semi 6 - 12.24 (10.00m) 2nd - 12.44 (4.50m)
How do we end up with a final with an average mark of nearly 8.75m and 3 at 10m or more... Red is off 6.25m?
You have a look at these times for athletes and compare them to October and November... athletes can improve and peak but we're looking at 6-8m improvements in 2 months... Great to see the likes of Hunt, Murphy, Moschou, Hejka and Doney giving it a crack but how do you go up against some of this!?!?

Hi Donatello
I've been away, currently in Singapore so I wasn't there and haven't seen much running this season. But my points
The pros..
* The schedule seemed to be shorter which was a big yes.
* Floater! Well done bud!
* The winner- wasn't hiding see the races he won.
The Cons.
* the stream was terrible - might have been the dodgy connection I had.
* The lacklustre final!! Gee, whiz I thought I was watching the restricted from day 1!!
* the event as a whole was blah! - wasn't eye catching. Needs some new views scrap the old views.
* the 3200m - scrap that - who thought that was a good idea - while we're at the 1600m select can go... Either get a good field or don't run it.
* The Handicapping -- mmmm. National is needed
* the lack of quality athletes! Where are they!!!! It was like watching a sports day at times! I thought I was back at school Go team Kimmuli!! Go Green!
I do believe the bay needs new life. I don't know what's going on with the SAAL but it needs new life. It just seems to be the same - same decisions..

Thanks SB!
Definitely don't believe the winner was hiding and not my intention at all! I think he ran 12.3 at pre-Bay? HOWEVER I think there is some hangover from a few years ago. Mckinnon's first Open 120m that i can see was back at the end of 2019 with 9.50m and then next was in Jan 2020 off 10.25m. He ran exceptionally well today (and people can cry whinging VIC) but in the VAL, the effort required to a) start somehow on 9.50m and b) get 0.75m lift in one run.... 3 in the final of 10m or more, so many marks from even the heats seem so high.
Out of 10 heats (64 runners) only 9 runners were below 6m! 85% of the field is more than 50% of the limit. With 36 being on 8m or more.
On a positive, I actually thought the stream wasn't bad. There were some technical issues I think with sound but overall pretty good for not being there this year. Possibly not having Day 1 at night due to heat may have made the program feel shorter?

Re: Bay Sheffield Day 1 Results
As an interstater attending it was enjoyable again, but the whole thing needs to be tightened up if you are going on Kayo and you want to present a professional package. It needs to be more punchy.
• 5 minutes between every heat is far too long. 3 minutes is ample as we do in Victoria.
• No need to parade every single heat. It wastes time and is unnecessary. Maybe gift heats and finals only.
• No need to waste time interviewing second and third place getters. Winners only is ample. All this stuff could be cut back to get back to 3 minute breaks.
• Track was as poor as I’ve seen it. It needs to be better if you want to get good runners to risk running on it. Compared to Tassie the track was poor. Sandy spots and a couple of risky areas.
You do a lot right including the recognition of your history, but everything just needs tightening up.
I actually thought the Select mile was a great race and I’m not a distance runner.
If you want to maintain the integrity of a great event like this you need to have limits , even in masters, junior and restricted races.
It devalues the race when someone is starting halfway down the track.
A few more interstaters being competitive in the Gifts is needed to keep getting them to return.
