Bendigo Gift Cancelled
The Bendigo International Madison Committee have made the difficult decision to cancel our event in 2022.
This year would have been the 50th staging of the Bendigo International Madison cycling and athletics carnival, but we feel that in the current climate we could not deliver a quality event to the standard expected by our loyal supporters.
There is so much unknown with Covid and the challenges that present in planning an event far outweigh the positive outcomes.
We are committed to providing a safe environment for all involved and the risk to public health through Covid is too great.
We will continue to plan for March 10-12, 2023 which will see us stage a fantastic 50th Year of the Bendigo International Madison.

It is really upsetting hearing that Bendigo has been cancelled (again) this season. It is one of those meets that I think every athlete looks forward too.
Is there a possibility to change this decision? Maybe just have an athletics program only, a one day program instead of two? I'm sure athletes wouldn't mind racing for less prizemoney. Most athletes just want to compete, it's already a shortened season with major gifts like Rye, Maryborough, Keilor all not going ahead, adding Bendigo to that list is a massive loss. Lets hope something can be worked out.

Piss weak from the committee. The vaccines are rolled out, everyone is double vax if not booster as well. Very disappointing.

Spot on, all other major events are going ahead, why is it an issue for an outdoor athletics/cycling event.. I'm also concerned that we are yet to see event lists for Docklands/Maribyrnong/Geelong/Euroa/Stawell, does this mean these events aren't going ahead?

Let’s all just dial it down a notch.
We don’t know the full circumstances behind the decision, but my understanding is that there are elements wholly unrelated to the running part of the event that may have been factors.
There’s still six and half weeks until the Labour Day weekend, so perhaps an alternative event may yet appear.

Weak effort from Bendigo Madison Committee. Proves that they think the athletics is just a gap filler. It was weak also from Rye and Keilor and to maybe a lesser degree Maryborough. The clubs that have taken those dates should have first dibs on them next year. The incumbent should have preference. You can bet your life Keilor will want to come back next year and demand “their” date. When you run two meetings on 5 years, you don’t have a date. You get slotted in around the incumbent.

Very disappointing. With the rise of events like Hastings and Beachside, I think there is a great opportunity for these newer meets to permanently fill the gaps left by the likes of Bendigo, at least the focus will be solely on the athletics

Sanchez,
Comments like that are not necessary in the interest of the sport and could jeopardize the comeback of some of those mentioned clubs.

Agree our state government is a disgrace, but we can’t live in fear of lockdowns which should be a thing of the past. We had a couple of thousand at Beachside yesterday, the footy is going back with full crowds and life has to get back to normal. If you want to live in a bubble then lock your doors and pull down the curtains. The rest of us want to get back to normality, and as all the clubs that have run meetings this year have proven you can run meetings if you are prepared to push on whilst following all the required protocols.

Tim Mason out here making it look easy!!
For a meeting that has a very short lived career, Beachside (Parkdale) is hands down the best meeting of the year AGAIN.
I know Tim is an incredibly hard worker and we can't expect all organisers to reach the same results as Mr. Mason. However it shows that a little bit of effort goes a long way! Showing that we can have great meeting even during COVID.
I think we can all take a leaf out of T. Mason's book.

Has there been an announcement about Bendigo. I know there was speculation about it happening but to my knowledge there has been no official announcement. It would be nice to know for accomodation etc.
