Tell him he's dreaming
In a couple of days time there is the forum in which so many disgruntled members will not attend with only a small number attending believing there is a slim chance their suggestions will actually make a difference. Tweak away!
Now onto the "business plan".
It is mentioned no meet will go ahead if it is not profitable. That said with the optimistic numbers outlined for the Bay Sheffield for 2021 these fanciful numbers are the only way this meet could go ahead.
Estimated profit at $2137 for 2021
Estimated attendances for 2021 is 6000 up 30% on last year? This increase comes on the back of the public (over 18) being charged $5 to enter. Really!
The 5 year plan for the bay is to have 660 nominations in 2025, go back to 2018 and there were just over 700!
An estimated increase each year of 25% in total nominations for 2021 and a 100% increase in interstate nominations, again really! This comes on the back of continual reductions in nominations since 2018 of approx 10-15%.
If the estimated nominations of 450 are not achieved and remain at 366 the meet runs at a loss.
If the estimated numbers attending at 6000 are not achieved and remain at 4500 the meet runs at a loss.
Its all well and good to be optimistic but these are significant increases when the competition is retracting.
It only take 1 of the above elements to not be achieved and based on this the meet should not go ahead.
Based on this plan one can only assume the Bay Sheffield wont be returning to Colley Reserve.
So much to pick apart but I leave that for some others to add. eg 2022 the profit goes to $5987 but the following year in 2023 it drops back to $3147 or the mentioning on how registrations will increase by CPI yet the budgeting has no CPI increases, I guess flowers will not be going up for the next 5 years, wonder if Inter Flora expects this also lol. CPI on applies to the members!!! Really!
All I can say is I suspect something better to come but its not from the SAAL.

To believe that attendances will go up by 30% and nominations by 25% goes well beyond aspirational and into delusional territory. Unless the SAAL rebuilds trust amongst a significant proportion of its disenchanted base, as well as the Victorians who previously travelled to SAAL events, all of these events will run at a loss and the league will quickly lose the capacity to prop all of them up.

Yep spot on Tom, they are well past the tipping point on trust.
How can they think 113 VAL members will nominate for the Bay this coming season when only 57 made it over last, an increase of 100%.
They need 25% of the total nominations to be interstate to meet the SATC requirement, does anyone in the VAL think this is likely?
The SATC key indicators will not be met, simple!

They'll need to do what Tasmania do and offer flights, accomodation and entry fees to interstate athletes otherwise not many will bother. But we all know that won't happen... oh well.

Re: Tell him he's dreaming
BTW a CPI increase of 2% on the 2021 figures will add approx $1500 to the expenses for 2022.
They wont want CPI increases of much more than 2%
They cant afford it Speedy, they can barely make a profit as it is but this is what the system created.

There is a fundamental disconnect between the SAAL Committee and a large section of the the athlete & trainer population in both SA & Victoria. They have voted with their feet for two seasons now.Top Sport wrote:They cant afford it Speedy, they can barely make a profit as it is but this is what the system created.
So long as the Committee persists in the belief that their system is fundamentally sound and only in need of a few tweaks there will not be change sufficient to mollify the concerned parties.
The only way the Committee will regain the confidence of these people is by listening in detail to their concerns, acknowledging the mistakes made, and implementing wholesale change.
Anything less is just shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.

Everything seems to be being directed a ACH Stadium.
Bay Sheffield 2020.
Bay Sheffield After Party.
Camden Classic After Party.
Saal Presentation night.
2021 Bay Sheffield
Doesnt it seem strange to other people that everything is happening at ACH Stadium.
It did to me , so I did some snooping , cant say anymore.

So no meet goes ahead if it is not profitable, and the Bay Sheffield requires 450 nominations and lets say nominations close....3 weeks out/4 weeks out?
What happens when an athlete enters, buys flights and accommodation early considering the time of year Bay Sheffield is run, and then 350 nominations are received... does the meet not go ahead as per that guideline? Will the SAAL then refund the athlete's expenses or does it mean the athletes are booking at their own risk? In which case if I was coming from QLD or even VIC for that matter.... I'm not nominating and running the risk of losing a fair chunk of money because there's no guarantee the meet will go ahead.

BUSINESS PLAN
The Management Committee recently approved a Business Plan which details the plans for the future direction of the League. This document is attached to this SAAL Update.
So the same Management Committee that has recently approved a Business Plan is the same committee that have just given us the worst saal season I can remember, and at the last meeting had open athletes running for $80 first prize.
Numbers down , move away from Colley , its the same Committee.
Last one out can you please turn off the lights.

Who the hell is determined to get the Bay Sheffield away from Colley Reserve? Don’t they realise that is the only thing that makes the Bay Sheffield special? Without Colley , it is just another running meet. I’ll go as far as saying it shouldn’t even be called the Bay Sheffield if it isn’t at Colley.

They dont listen though.
Last week the saal held a handicapping forum in a direct clash with the Crows / Kangaroos match.
This week they are holding the saal presentation night in a direct clash with the AFLWL Grand final being held that day, The National Athletic Championships and the Port Power / Carlton match
Yep and the ones that came up with April 17th for end of season presentation night are the same ones who approved the Business Plan

Re: Tell him he's dreaming
I think to have a business plan you need to know how to do business!
Good point Donatello, if numbers are down at nomination closing day (which they will be), will it be cancelled? If it is cancelled as you mention would you get not only a refund on your nomination but costs incurred to come to Adelaide? Doubt it. Wouldn't the SAAL lose a lot of money not running the meet that close to its scheduled date, absolutely.
See the SAAL has policies released on the run with little or no thought to it.
All of about 20 at the "forum" in which ideas were suggested only to be mostly dismissed, talked over and seemingly totally ignored.

The numbers that I was told, which attended the forum were so bad I had to ring my mate Gossips.
Gossips didnt even go ,and said there wouldnt even have been enough there to make up a footy team.

Next to none from the committee, next to none from the officials, next to none from the Coaches, next to none from the athletes, and next to none from the handicappers.
The ship is sinking.

''Wheeler is back for a crack at another Grand Annual win with Heistheone and Macklemore. The pair are in the field for Tuesday’s Brierly Steeplechase but Wheeler said they would find the 3450m too short but would leave them spot-on on for the gruelling 5500m of the Grand Annual.''

Re: Tell him he's dreaming
My old mate Gossips has returned from holiday and was on the dog and bone last night.
Apparently a handicapper from last season , yep one of those 5 inexperianced ones, has decided enough is enough and is not going on.
Another is trying to follow him out the door as well, has seen the light and had enough.
And another is getting very twitchey but will probably stay.
